JACKSONVILLE, FL -- The state attorney's office has deemed that Officer Jason Bailey did not break any laws by shooting two bondsmen and killing one of them. Bondsmen Verne Williams and Antonio Cooks were seeking a felon when someone in the area reported a robbery. When Officer Jason Bailey arrived at the scene, he believed that the two men were criminals (the men were armed) and when the two did not respond to requests to lower their weapons, the police officer fired, injuring Williams and killing Cooks. The police officer has now been cleared of wrongdoing, although questions still remain about the communication mix-up that allowed the event to take place.
