Governor Has Qualms About Bail Law

RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina Governor Beverly Perdue will let a bill become law, even though she has some reservations. The bill will become law without the governor’s signature. Gov. Perdue has specifically expressed concerns about one part of the law, which affects how bondsmen can reclaim money in the court system. The law will permit bondsmen to recover money they have put up for defendants who failed to show up in court. If the bondsmen file a motion for the money and if the motion is not objected to within 20 days, the bondsmen will be able to reclaim the money.
