Green Bondsmen?
NEW YORK, NY – A recent blog post pointed out that bondsmen are not only good for helping people get out on bail – but they can be good for the environment, as well. According to the Greener Ideal blog, bondsmen can reduce a lot of driving. Without a bondsman, family members may have to travel all over town to get the money to bail out a loved one. One trip to the bondsman, however, takes care of the bail and allows a defendant to get out on bail in minutes or a few hours.

Properties Used to Bail Out Doctor
OROVILLE, CA – Dr. James Yhip and his nurse wife, accused of killing their adopted son, together have bail set at $1 million and their attorneys have offered the value of eight real estate properties to cover the amount. Under local laws, properties may be used in lieu of using a California bail bondsman or a cash bond. However, the value of the properties must be, at minimum, twice the bail amount. The properties used in Yhip’s case include his own as well as the properties of family and friends. The value of the properties amounts to over $2 million.

Bondsman Pleads Guilty
NORFOLK, VA – Ulysses Stephenson Jr., a Virginia bondsman, has plead guilty to bribery and to conspiracy to commit bribery. Stephenson provided a local magistrate, Deborah L. Clark, with nearly $4000 in cash and gifts to secure referrals. The exchange of money allegedly took place between 2009 and 2012. Stephenson also made payments to a member of the Portsmouth Sheriff's Office.

Sea Shepherd Founder Skips Bail
GERMANY – Paul Watson, the Canadian man who has created the environmental advocacy group Sea Shepherd, has skipped bail and has promised to keep causing problems for the Japanese whaling fleet. Authorities in at least three countries hope to arrest Watson for his activities. Japan and Costa Rica both sought his extradition from Germany earlier this month.

Bail Increased For Accused Man
JERSEY CITY, NJ — Frederico Bruno has been accused of beating his former girlfriend and pushing her out of a third-story window while she held their infant son. Given the gravity of the charges, a judge has raised Bruno’s bail to half a million dollars after arraigning him on attempted murder charges. Bruno faces upgraded charges following the death of his 3 month old son. Two women were repeatedly stabbed in the incident which led to Bruno’s arrest and the former girlfriend remains in the hospital with serious injuries.

Bail Refused in Arson Case
SANTA ANA, CA – Professor Rainer Reinscheid is being held without bail after being accused of setting at least five fires this month at a park, a high school, and a school administrator’s home. Authorities allege Reinscheid plotted to kill administrators and students after his son committed suicide. Reinscheid is an associate professor of pharmaceuticals at UC Irvine. At a hearing, a judge denied bail in the case.
